I’ve always been passionate about stories that combine a modern urban setting with fantasy elements. The setting and characters in my body of work are part of a personal project which I have expressed online, and my process of creation was inspired by the community of online digital comic artists who explore similar passions. I experimented with several palettes and poses until I arrived at something I’m happy with. Overall, this was a special work for me.
My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Devin Elle Kurtz, Kōhei Horikoshi.
Marker's Commentary
With an outstanding demonstration of digital graphic illustration skill, comic and manga practice, this body of work presents a wide-ranging compendium of imagery for a proposed comic series. The figurative subjects, as the pivotal parts of the series are refined and exquisitely rendered with nuance and control. The colour palette enhances the storytelling narrative and mood of the scripted scenes. Light and shade throughout the sequence of works is expertly handled along with the knowing attention to detail, particularly across the scale and the control of perspective. The drawing skills and rendering of the characters also underlines the exemplary practice of this submission.
