My body of work uses visual and sound-based forms to represent the conglomeration of ideas, characters, environments and emotions found inside my brain. This experimental film is intended to stimulate a human experience that is both collective and unique. By removing all narrative context, the viewer's typically organised thought processes are liberated, allowing for an exhilarating cerebral deliverance.
My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Iglooghost, Madeon, MILKBLOOD, Colin Stetson, Jacob Collier, David Shrigley, Flying Lotus, LemKuuja, Ginger Root, Breakbot, Tyler The Creator.
Marker's Commentary
This body of work is a timely response to the media's portrayal of a post-human world, envisaged by AI image generators and Chat-GPT. The time-based work combines computer generated imagery (CGI) animation, text and audio to create a fractured narrative. The dialogue heard from the distorted, disembodied voice is seemingly driven by computer program prompts. This unreliable narrator poses philosophical questions to the audience about the nature of creativity. Is art real if it is created by a computer?
The montage of feeds, juxtaposed with 3D modelling software and combined with atmospheric, electronic and classical music, represents a glitch aesthetic. Indeed, the line “I find that quite beautiful” could be either a nod to new forms of art made possible by AI, or the idea that humans can have meaningful connections with computers, or both.
