Collection of Work

My body of work, Threaded through history, investigates how the glorified triumphs of historical figures are manifested in the idea that ambition is the essence of our lives. My work challenges the contemporary stigma placed on individual lives of compliance moving towards mediocre social paradigms. Through my mediums of string and thread, my intention is to champion the fundamental notion that knowledge is the thing that intrinsically connects all humanity.

My body of work examines the ambience and ephemerality of urban life. Individuals blend into the city’s flow, slipping in and out of memory like brief flashes caught on a surveillance camera. In public spaces, vehicles become transient capsules of mass transit and industrial ritual. As if through the lens of the camera, which sees, records, deletes and forgets, I represent the mechanised, emotionless lives within the metropolis. Fragments of light framed within liminal spaces convey the detached, fleeting nature of existence in the urban landscape.

Historically, greyhounds have been exploited for gambling which has ended tragically for many of these dogs. In my body of work my intention is to intrigue and shock the audience, thus reshaping its perception of inhumane sports. The satirical, grotesque representations of greyhounds in my work question the ethics of using animals for entertainment and the bizarre lengths humans have gone to make profits. Using distortion, it communicates the injuries they have sustained from racing and being in cramped kennels. The bank notes reference the profits made from greyhound racing and abuse.

There is something special about a mob of Brahmans. Their synchronised movement across the rugged landscape speaks of strength and serenity, while their gentle gaze reveals a deep connection to the environment. My body of work investigates Brahman cattle in the Australian outback, blending dry point etching and oil painting to illustrate the Brahmans’ distinctive features; prominent humps, wrinkles and long ears, tranquil nature and resilience. The subtle, dusty sky communicates the dreamlike atmosphere, while the etched textures of the terrain represent the vast, peaceful outback. My intention was to convey a harmonious balance of strength, grace and quiet wisdom.

My body of work, inspired by the remnants of my mother’s childhood home in rural Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, conveys personal history, cultural memory and socioeconomic reflections. Many historically rich houses have been demolished in China, echoing a global trend where progress often comes at the cost of heritage. Like a ‘house of cards’, the sculpture represents the fragile balance between preserving the past and embracing the future. My work examines the impermanence of physical structures and the socioeconomic forces shaping our environments. It invites the audience to peer through metaphorical keyholes, finding reflections in the interplay of light and shadow.

In my body of work my intention was to spark the audience’s thoughts about the way our developing, fast-paced society affects our appreciation for smaller, unnoticed experiences. These occasions are often overlooked. I have used sketches and a dry brush painting style to represent the significance of these intimate, quiet and mundane moments of life and human relationships. My work uses nostalgia in homage to these easily forgotten points in time. Wherever you go, you will find humanity.

My body of work investigates personal identity and the family’s role in shaping self-perception. It represents the diversity of my family members’ lives, moving from portraits to an abstracted cube. My intention in painting the portraits on wood was to illustrate how elements of identity converge to form the individual. Their gradual deconstruction shows how identity is not one-dimensional but is complex and ever-changing. The 3D cube integrates family objects from shared experiences of our collective identity. With the layering referencing geological strata, it communicates the interconnectedness of our histories, while the interactive feature conveys childhood playfulness and life’s journey.

My body of work examines and celebrates my profound connection with both the tropical landscape of Cairns (far north Queensland) and the temperate coastline of Port Stephens. It conveys the contrasting beauty of these environments and my personal interactions with them, experienced through my transition from the vibrant, exotic atmosphere of Queensland’s rainforests and coral reefs to the rugged coastal bushland and serene beaches of Port Stephens. My intention in this work was to represent the essence of these two regions, honouring the unique flora and fauna that have shaped my experiences and continue to inspire my art.
