ORBIT OF ONE
Time-Based Forms
Unreal Engine, Blender, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, Maxon Cinema 4D, OctaneRender, DaVinci Resolve
Orbit of One is an investigation of memory and recollection. Centred on the personal experiences of Alexander (inspired by Yuri Gagarin), my intention is to transcend conventional boundaries and examine the emotional state of the protagonist. My body of work challenges storytelling norms, conveying the resilience and unseen behaviours of both body and mind when experiencing uncharted territories. By inviting the audience on a cinematic odyssey, where they can put themselves in Alexander’s shoes and imagine the awe and wonder that often feel just out of reach, my work is a celebration of human experience
My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Taylor S. Ellis; Alaskan FX; FxForge (AlbinThorburn); Regoliste; Tony Ann, Icarus.
Marker's Commentary
Orbit of One, a time-based 3D animation, is a cinematic exploration of memory and recollection. This highly sophisticated work utilises a range of emerging digital technologies to create a compelling narrative that takes the viewer on a biographical journey utilising an informed array of digital production tools. The rich use of visual symbolism dissolves between cropped close-ups and vast panoramas of the galaxy. The selected music track reinforces the film’s emotional storyline and allows the images to linger on screen. The locked off, static shots hold the viewer’s attention and amplify the minute details of the face and fingers. Technical choices including lens flare, focus blur and shallow depth of field lend an intimacy to the vast sense of wonder and great achievement told through the body of work.
