Painting

An individual work or series of works with a focus on painting (Visual Arts Stage 6 Syllabus).

In 2019, students submitting a Body of Work in this expressive form revealed cohesive compositions across multiple surfaces that maintained a sophisticated understanding of painting practice. Through an extensive use of gouache and watercolour on paper there were investigations of colour that were subtle, atmospheric, expressive and ephemeral. A refined colour palette was utilised to include the full tonal range as a means to extend concepts, and formed both realistic and abstracted artworks with a subjective narrative. These concepts were extended through the inclusion of objects represented within the paintings and/or accompanied by sound or film. Historical and contemporary art was referenced through multi-layered concepts within a sustained material practice.
