Sculpture

An individual work or series of works with a focus on sculpture (Visual Arts Stage 6 Syllabus).

In 2019, students submitting a Body of Work in this expressive form revealed investigations of space through reductive and additive processes using collage, carving, casting, welding and 3D printed objects. Students experimented with a variety of approaches including freestanding, frontal, relief, hanging works, assemblages, cabinets for display and plinths or bases. They also considered the repurposing of natural and recycled materials and the creation of highly contrived surfaces using rust paint or heavy patinas. Conceptually, the sculptural works focussed on a celebration of the natural and built environment, explorations of personal and cultural identity, and comments about the environment and animal welfare. In making an impact on the audience, students utilised clear investigation and understanding about the importance of spatial relationships and explored the transformation of found and manufactured materials to communicate meaning.
