Memories construct the fundamental building blocks of our identities, yet they are delicately plastic, prone to alteration, ambiguity and their inevitable fade. My body of work, Remnants, explores blissful nostalgia and the melancholic horror of losing our authentic memories. Elina, the main character in the short film, is represented struggling as her disorientating Alzheimer's Disease takes hold. The oil paintings in my work are intended to be Elina's, as if done by her throughout her mental decay. By examining an extreme condition of memory loss, the film and paintings complement each other to communicate the transience and fragility of memory.

My body of work investigates how humans are both physically and mentally reactive to time's inevitable consequences for all living things, including its effect on our ability to remember visual images clearly. The four portraits represent ageing as a shared physical experience, with the development of wrinkles and blemishes. The scattered background works symbolise the pursuit of describing a memory: when trying to do so we are unable to recall an image clearly due to cognitive decline over time. Distorted photos convey this visual confusion and interference between memories.

We build ourselves in different ways during different stages of our lives. As we build our identity, we rely on the strength and resilience formed at our starting point, just as buildings rely on their foundation layers. My body of work represents the different qualities that we require to push us forward. Further, each piece is drawn within a shape that conveys each concept: knowledge - in the shape of an octopus, inspired by their well-known intelligence; family - tree; social life - butterfly, social butterfly; physical activity - human heart; creativity - camera, exploring the variety of lenses we can see art through.

My body of work explores the paradox of concealment and confession. The concept for the work is that concealment, under fabric, covers the subject's insecurities. Initially, the veil of fabric grants a confidence to be the subject. In the space of the work, the subject is represented as becoming comfortable enough to confess her form. My artmaking practice included composing reference photos, ensuring specific lighting to highlight all 3D components in order to represent insecurities. Additionally, the medium of scratch art complements my concept as each inerasable scratch holds a sense of finality, confessing my intentions and my subject's insecurities.

My body of work investigates humanity's ever-changing imagination. As we grow older our imagination changes to understand that which we don't understand and express that which we feel. My work represents the characters I drew at different stages of my life, communicating my ever-evolving perspective. Some of these characters overlap, some exist on their own but they have never disappeared and I have never left them behind. They simply grew alongside me.

Gazing. Watching. Wondering. I wonder who you see when you look at me? Or who you can see in yourself. Through These Windows is a personal and emotional representation of self-discovery, an investigation that gave me the strength and the courage to reach out, reminding me of just how much love and support there is surrounding me. My body of work communicates, through the eyes, the souls of my closest friends and family, who I was, who I am and who I might be.

Landscapes Revealed is an interpretation of the topography of the landscape around me, which has been a source of inspiration. My body of work is intended to express the 'scaffold' of the land: the basic shapes on which its beauty is built. I have used my skills of observation, my experiences and imagination to create my paintings. My stylistic approach - the use of shapes and an exaggerated colour palette - represents the colours and patterns that are found within the landscape. These colours and patterns only become evident when you immerse yourself in the environment.

As we mature and our entertainment preferences change, we find different escape mechanisms to remain ignorant of world events. Initially my body of work explores the toys which keep us blind, in the great blissful ignorance of childhood, to the great suffering and generational gap around us. These ways of killing time follow us into the sophistication of video games which, through various consoles, hold us to a continued deterioration of our health. Finally, this escapism matures and our identity is developed past our cultural heritage through an exploration of the medium of music, enjoying the personal expression it offers.

My body of work illustrates the pivotal role of my home town, Portland, in the building of Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra (a fact proudly displayed on notices as visitors enter the city). Portland's first lime kiln was established in 1863, and from 1902 the Commonwealth Portland Cement Company was shipping cement throughout Australia. The work's use of scale was partly inspired by my study of Ron Mueck. I researched period-specific wheelbarrows and made one using coreboard. I then experimented with materials such as polystyrene, filler and bitumen. I examined aerial photographs of Sydney to represent the unmistakable Circular Quay area.

While on a family holiday to the Northern Territory, exploring and connecting to my Aboriginal culture, I participated in traditional basket weaving workshops. This link to my culture inspired my body of work. I was also motivated by learning that British museums hold many valuable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage artefacts, including some from my family. These artefacts were “Gifted, sold, exchanged and bartered by Indigenous people, and accepted, bought, collected and taken by travellers, colonists, explorers, missionaries, officials and others”. The incorporation of these powerful words, shadowed over my weaving, demonstrates how Aboriginal culture has been mistreated and misinterpreted since colonisation.

Scars Remain is a video that considers our lasting environmental impact on Earth. It delves into a semi-realistic future where remnants of human populations persist. Using digital media to represent the breakdown of our world, my body of work conveys the urgency in addressing these issues before it's too late.
