Ceramics

An individual work or series of works with a focus on ceramics (Visual Arts Stage 6 Syllabus).

In 2019, students submitting a Body of Work in Ceramics revealed a dominance of sculptural forms referencing vessels combining a range of building techniques. Students utilised a wide array of surface treatments through a variety of mark-making tools as well as the use of glazes, stains, underglazes, slips, oxide washes and acrylic paint to further elaborate the concept. In experimenting with this form there has been a revival in the application of ornate and heavily decorated surfaces. Students used their knowledge of subject matter of environmental concerns, marine environments, animal welfare, narratives about cultural values and explorations of identity to shape their artworks. In combining making with strong curatorial strategies, this enabled vessels in specific arrangements to provide layered meanings for an audience.
